Milestone Celebration

The Martha Graham Dance Company is gearing up to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026 with a series of New York seasons. The first season, titled “American Legacies,” opened at New York City Center and features a lineup of iconic performances.

Highlight Performances

  • Rodeo: A new production of Agnes de Mille’s classic ballet set in the American Southwest.
  • We the People: Choreographed by Jamar Roberts with music by Rhiannon Giddens, making its New York premiere.
  • The Rite of Spring: Martha Graham’s powerful piece from 1984.

While some of the performances may feel traditional, one particular guest appearance stole the show. British singer-songwriter FKA twigs graced the stage with a mesmerizing interpretation of Martha Graham’s “Satyric Festival Song” (1932). Her background in various dance styles, including the Graham technique, brought a fresh perspective to the classic piece.

Despite not having the typical training of a Graham dancer, FKA twigs captivated the audience with her carefree yet focused performance, earning her the title of “the newest member of the Martha Graham Dance Company family.”
