City Crime Data
The Getty House, located in the Windsor Square neighborhood of central Los Angeles, experienced the break-in amidst the city’s efforts to combat rising homelessness and violent crime. According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s report on crime in 2023, homicides decreased by 17%, while property crimes increased by approximately 3.5% and motor vehicle thefts rose by 2% compared to the previous year.
In her recent State of the City Address, Mayor Bass acknowledged the progress made in reducing crime rates and homelessness in Los Angeles. She highlighted the city’s achievements, stating, “Over the last year, we have done big things together. Thousands more unhoused Angelenos came inside, and homicide and violent crime decreased.”
In a previous incident in September 2022, before becoming mayor, Mayor Bass’s residence in Baldwin Vista was burglarized, resulting in the theft of two handguns.
