Arrests of Spies in Poland and Germany

The authorities in Poland and Germany have arrested at least five of their citizens in recent days and accused them of spying for Russia or of offering to help Moscow commit violence on European soil.

Alleged Plot to Target Ukrainian President

The Polish National Prosecutor’s Office stated that a Polish citizen, identified as Pawel K., was detained for offering to assist Russian agents in a possible plot aimed at killing the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

  • Pawel K. declared his readiness to act for the military intelligence of the Russian Federation.
  • He established contacts with citizens of the Russian Federation directly involved in the war in Ukraine.

Crackdown on Collaborators with Russian Services

Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland announced that two Polish citizens were arrested for attacking a top aide to Russian opposition campaigner Aleksei A. Navalny outside the aide’s home in Vilnius, Lithuania, last month with a hammer. Additionally, a citizen of Belarus, allegedly involved in ordering the attack on Moscow’s behalf, was also apprehended.

  • The Polish leader emphasized that there will be no leniency for collaborators with the Russian services.
  • He vowed to eliminate every betrayal and attempt at destabilization.
